I've reviewed Shake-a-phrase and am starting to use it in my tutoring. I work with a 14 year old boy who has Down Syndrome and he enjoys the game. He enjoys playing this engaging game. It has recently gone through a few changes and will offer a bit more for our kids. I have the pleasure of being able to give 5 codes away for this app. Shake-a-phrase will get your kids laughing, wanting to play along, and not realizing they are learning!

We've been contemplating getting Scooter an iPad. Her current speaking device is so cumbersome and heavy that she tends not to use it as much as she could or even should. If they made the app we want for the Android OS, we'd be fine, since we have that on our phones and on a Kindle.
We are going to have to seriously look into it. Thanks for the info you've been putting out on the apps!
We did it ONLY because the school trialed augmentative communication devices with him and it was the easiest to use for him. They use an app called Proloquo2go. It is $185 and our insurance would pay for 1/2 of that. After we spent around $900 for the ipad, protectors, covers, and warranty we couldn't pay the extra $185 up front and wait for the money back. We bought 2 apps that were $1.99 each and use those for Chris. We have also used them for Matthew.
From what I understand, they apps for communication are only for the ipad or ipod. We looked into the Kindle as well. We added TONS of free educational apps to help as well.
