I’m trying to figure out where our handbook is. Where is The Handbook for the Recently Diagnosed? The book that explains to parents the lingo, rules, paperwork, services you are entitled to, therapies your child should be getting, how to advocate for them more? Yea, there is nothing out there like this….WHY?

At a training for my new job, we had to watch part of a movie called Educating Peter and we talked about the support system the mom had and how knowledgeable she was in preparing for his future. No one tells you anything. It’s like you have to have hip boots on and wade through the shit of bureaucracy to figure out the lingo, rules, paperwork, services, and therapies. It shouldn’t be that way either…..it seems as if there’s someone who should be able explain all the shit and make our lives as parents of special needs easier.
