We were told today that the reason why Chris was removed from speech services is because of budget cuts. Because of budget cuts, language skills have to be assessed as both expressive (what you say) and receptive (what you understand) together instead of seperately. Chris understands more than he can say; he can understand up to a 24 month level and can say things that typical 18 month olds can.
He has more word approximations than he does full words. He mostly does parts of words, beginnings or ends not full words. So, instead my 2.5 year old is thrown out there to figure it out on his own. Don't ya think he would have if he could have? He's a year behind in what he has the ability to say and he's had therapy for a year.
Can't wait until the 8th when we can go to the developmental ped and ask for a diagnosis. A formal diagnosis may help us get the service back.
